downloaded an .iso file from some site and burned a CDR but I cannot read it. Your CD burning s/w (Roxio, Nero, etc) should have an option somewhere on the main menu bar to create a CD from an ISO Image file. In Roxio I believe it's under the 'File' menu item. I believe you can use .iso image files of CDs. Many if not a majority of the Linux distributions have downloads where you get the .iso file(s). I have yet to see "bootable" data files. If the OP isn't using an OS in a VM then the OP doesn't need Virtual PC. The OP says he doesn't have the install CDs.
